The study was conducted in Gen. Salipada K. Pendatun, Maguindanao from February to June, 2022. This study aimed to determine the factors that affect the efficiency of rice production in Gen. Salipada K. Pendatun, Maguindanao, identify the socio-economic characteristics, farm management practices and the problems encountered by the rice farmers, analyze the profitability of rice farming in the study area and determine policy implications and recommendations.
The study was carried out through personal interview to 234 rice farmers in the study area. For data analysis, stochastic frontier approach was used to estimate the determinants of technical efficiency of rice production in Gen. Salipada K. Pendatun, Maguindanao. In this study, a stochastic frontier production model was applied, using a linearized Cobb-Douglas production function to determine the production elasticity coefficients of inputs, technical efficiency and the determinants of efficiency.
Base on the result of the study, the factors that affect the efficiency of rice production in General Salipada K. Pendatun, Maguindanao were fertilizer, seeds, labor and pesticides. Further, result shows that 33.70% variability of the yield is attributed to the fertilizer, seeds, labor and pesticides used.
In order to increase the production of rice farmers in Gen. Salipada K. Pendatun, Maguindanao, the researcher recommends that the government may pay attention to rice farmers to help them to regulate the price of rice in the market. The local government unit of GSKP particularly the municipal agriculturists may extend their services to rice farmers in their jurisdiction through technical management. Farmers may store seeds for the next cropping season in order to lessen their cost of farming. Rice farmers may lessen their application of fertilizer and the number of working men on their farms. Lastly, the government may provide subsidies to the rice farmers with regards to farm inputs.
