Abstract

Rodenticidal assay of pelletized food for toxicity test of Hagonoy (Chromolaena odorata) and Madre de cacao (Gliricidia sepium) leaf extract was conducted. Rodenticide composition of rodent toxic plant material and the methods of rodent control employing pelletized food of Hagonoy (Chromolaena odorata) and Madre de cacao (Gliricidia sepium) leaf extract were done. Ninety White mice (Mus musculus),45 males and 45 females, aged 10-12 weeks with mean mass of 18 grams, were divided and carried out with five (5) treatment groups namely: 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% respectively with three (3) replicates and one (1) control group, the tested commercialized rodenticide, Racumin, which was designated as TO. Phytochemical screening was done and found that Hagonoy (Chromolaena odorata) and Madre de cacao (Gliricidia sepium) contained phytochemical constituents such as Coumarin which resulted for the plant to be toxic. Statistical analyses, DMRT and ANOVA, were used and revealed that the leaf extract concentration of 100% could give almost the same rodenticidal potential of that commercialzed rodenticide, Racumin. Furthermore, LDso test was also done and gave 69.43% and 70.43% of Hagonoy (Chromolaena odorata) and Madre de cacao (Gliricidia sepium) concentration that would be sufficient enough to kill the half of the experimental subject's population, respectively. Moreover, Histopathological analysis was done on white mice (Mus musculus) organs showing degeneration of cells and widespread congestion and hemorrhage in kidneys, liver, ovary and testes causing for its malfunction which then lead to the subsequent multiple organ failure and death.
