Preliminary dendrological assessment of secondary forests of selected barangays in Kiamba, Sarangani Province namely Kapate, Tamadang, Gasi and Tambilil was carried out using Point- Center Quarter Method on September 25-28, 2010 and on February 14 - 16.2011 involving eight transects ranging from 0.5-1.2 Km. A total of 877 individuals were recorded, resolved in 157 species and 39 families, dominated by Duabanga moluccana with a total number of 56 individuals. Other abundant species were Piper arborescens, Paraserianthes falcataria, Colona mindanensis, Shorea negrosensis, Ficus minahassae, Pangium edule, Cratoxylum sumatranum and Ficus batryocarpa with 33, 27, 25, 22, 21, 20, 18 and 17 individuals, respectively. Majority of the species were represented only by one individual in each transect. Economically important hardwood species documented in the study sites were Hopea acuminata, Toona calantas. Pterocarpus indicus, Artocarpus blancoi, Shorea astylosa, and the broad-leaved Apitong. Dipterocarpus grandiflorus. Results further indicate that there were 7 critically endangered, 13 vulnerable, 4 endangered and 1 rare species documented in all of the study areas.
