Abstract

This study sought to answer the challenges of the students on online learning by determining their preferred learning modality and test whether it has a relationship with their socio-demographic status. This study utilized a quantitative research approach, specifically descriptive-correlational in nature. The two- hundred ninety-three (293) respondents of this study were the students of College of Social Sciences and Humanities and were selected using stratified random sampling. A survey questionnaire was used to get the precise information from the participants. Chi-square test was used to analyze and test the relationship between the socio-demographic profile of the respondents and their preference on learning modalities.

Findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between the students' socio-demographic profile, specifically in terms of age and parents' occupational status. It was noted that course, year level, community and family monthly income do not significantly affect their preferred mode of learning.

Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that the Mindanao State University - General Santos investigate the issue of student familiarity with online learning technology before implementing the e-learning system to determine whether students are comfortable with the online learning tools. Replication of this study is also recommended by considering other variables such as teaching modalities employed by the teachers.
