BINISAYA: A TRADITIONAL APPROACH DURING PANDEMIC

Abstract

This study sought to provide information focused on health-seeking individuals' journey in Binisaya healing practice during the Covid-19 pandemic, the understanding of Binisaya, the prevailing practices that are used during the pandemic, and the reasons why they resort to this kind of treatment approach. This qualitative study was among five (5) health-seeking individuals who are housewives and residents of Barangay Bula. A Key Informant Interview guide was used during data gathering. Data were analyzed through a thematic approach.

The participants of the study consider herbal medication and techniques as part of Binisaya healing practice. Among which are hilot, tuob, and the use of herbal plants. The influence of family members and lack of financial resources are the reasons why they resort to Binisiya healing practice despite the existence of the modern healthcare system. This study sought to suggest to the field of psychology to focus on studying the behavior of health-seeking individuals.
